How about putting aside some time for learning about Jesus? 'Reading about Jesus' is an opportunity to join with others and read through the Bible’s accounts of Jesus, to discuss and learn together. Our English Conversation Club is an informal time, not a structured class. In a small group we talk about a different topic each meeting, with a native English speaker. Come and join us to do some bouldering and share a drink or two.  All abilities are welcome. Mountain Strong has a vast range of ability levels, from beginner to expert! This is a good way to meet some like-minded outdoorsy people in Canberra.  The bouldering starts at Mountain Strong (66-68 Townsville St, Fyshwick ACT 2609) at 5 pm. Then we will head to Captial Brewing Co. (Building 3/1 Dairy Rd, Fyshwick ACT 2609) for a bevvy and some food. There will most likely be someone in their UCOC shirt to identify who is with the club easily.  If you can’t make it at 5 pm, we will be bouldering until about 6-6.30 pm, so please feel free to join us later.  The bouldering and beers/burgers are at your own expense.  Entry to Mountain Strong is $13 for club members, which covers entry and shoe hirer. For non-members, it is $16.  On Friday, 9 February, the first 20 people will have free entry to Mountain Strong. You will need to pay the entry fee if you are not one of the 20 people.  We head to Moutain Strong on the first Friday of most months. All the dates are listed below. For Hans Asenbaum, the field of deliberative democracy may have come a long way in recognising female marginalisation, but it has so far neglected cisgender, heterosexual, masculinities. Only when deliberative democracy recognises such hegemonic identities can it challenge the heterosexist domination underpinning macho populism.María Esperanza Casullo has a different take. For her, deliberative democracy can challenge macho populism by upholding the value of the most basic of human activities: talking. Macho populism seeks to define the simple act of talking as unproductive, decadent, in sum, feminine. It has a clear preference for supposedly masculine performances of aggression. Therefore, the act of deliberation itself has the potential to become the grounds for resistance. Join the conversation with Hans Asenbaum and María Esperanza Casullo, moderated by Jordan McSwiney. This event is part 7 of a 10-part seminar series on 10 Big Questions on Deliberative Democracy convened by Dr Adele Webb. About the speakersHans Asenbaum is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance at the 91Porn. Hans is the author of The Politics of Becoming: Anonymity and Democracy in the Digital Age (Oxford University Press, 2023). His work has been published in the American Political Science Review, Politics & Gender, and the Journal of Gender Studies.María Esperanza Casullo is an Associate Professor at the National University of Rio Negro and a researcher at CONICET in Argentina. She obtained a PhD in political theory from Georgetown University. She has published extensively on democratic theory and populism. The UC Medical and Counselling team have created an ‘ACT for Anxiety’ group program, to help clients who are experiencing difficulties with anxiety. This group aims to provide you with skills and strategies to better manage your anxiety and to improve your day-to-day life.As the name suggests, ACT aims to help people to accept what is out of their control and commit to actions that improves and enriches their lives. ACT does this by: • Teaching skills to deal with painful thoughts and feelings effectively • Helping to clarify what is important to you and using that knowledge to motivate you to create positive change

After dominating Australian airwaves ever since they busted out of Arnhem Land with hits like Milkumana, KING STINGRAY have been busy writing album number two. This tour is the perfect chance for them to road test some new material, including their most recent single Through The Trees. “Let’s not waste anymore time” indeed!The tour starts in regional Victoria, with gigs in Castlemaine, Frankston and then hopefully someone can lend the boys a few wetties and boards before the show in Torquay. Get your mittens on some bowls and your tootsies on the green.  A social gatho at the Ruc (54 McCaughey St, Turner ACT 2612) and a reason to get bowling on the green.  Starting around 3 pm, come down for bowls and grab a beer or two after.  All the bowls will be paid for by the club. UC Medical & Counselling's Bystander Intervention training explores how challenging situations can affect perception and decision-making, and provides techniques for taking clear action under pressure. Presented by psychologists from the UC Medical & Counselling Centre, this training identifies safe and effective strategies in common bystander situations, including discrimination, bullying, sexual assault, harassment, intimate partner violence, mental health issues, and harmful use of drugs and alcohol.

Take a well-deserved break away from it all. Come down to the coast (camping at either Saltwater Creek Campground or Little Beach Campground) to celebrate the end of the uni year or your degree. This long weekend trip (24-27 October) doesn’t have much of an agenda except to provide some well-needed rejuvenation from a hectic year!  Both of the campsites are right near the beach and provide many different areas for swimming, hiking, snorkelling, and surfing. There are many opportunities for various activities it’s all up to you.  We are waiting till availability opens up but will be booking a campsite at either Saltwater Creek Campground or Little Beach Campground for the whole time (24-27 October), and it is up to you how long you join. We need to know if you’re coming to see if we need to book more space.
